About the event

Ecology and Art: A Photographic Journey Through Nature

Join us for a unique fusion of nature and art as we explore the beauty of native plants from Northeastern Illinois and the Chicago Wilderness, captured through the lens of creativity. This special exhibit features stunning portraits of local plants, photographed at Oakton College in Des Plaines, by the artist and former campus naturalist, Ken Schaefer.

The images are presented in the captivating style of photograms—a darkroom technique that uses no camera, allowing the intricate structures and character of each plant to emerge in bold blacks, whites, and grays. Each piece offers a mesmerizing glimpse into the delicate balance of our local ecosystems, inviting viewers to appreciate the art in nature’s design.

Don’t miss this inspiring exhibit that celebrates both the artistry and the ecological richness of our region.
