A Night to Remember: 16th Annual Wild Game Dinner

Writer: Cynthia NielsenCynthia Nielsen

The 16th Annual Wild Game Dinner, hosted by the Des Plaines Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, was a resounding success, bringing together members, new guests, and longtime supporters for an evening of great food, camaraderie, and conservation.

A Tradition of Good Food & Great Company

On Friday, February 21st, the historic Jefferson House was filled with the mouthwatering aroma of delicious wild game dishes, lovingly prepared by our dedicated IKEs. These private recipes, passed down through generations, once again proved why this event has become a cherished tradition. Guests enjoyed everything from succulent venison to perfectly seasoned waterfowl, each dish reflecting the bounty of nature and the skill of our members.

Attendees included both familiar faces and newcomers, all eager to take part in this time-honored gathering. The sense of community was undeniable, as stories were shared, laughter filled the room, and connections were made between those who value conservation, outdoor recreation, and sustainable living.

A Night of Fun & Giving Back

The evening wasn’t just about the food—guests had a blast with our raffles, door prizes, and the popular 50/50 drawing. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, the event helped raise funds to support our conservation programs, youth education, and community outreach.

Beyond the Dinner: Conservation in Action

The Des Plaines Chapter has long been a leader in environmental stewardship, including the Des Plaines Riverbank Clean-Up and the Forest Regeneration Project, both of which are making a lasting impact on local ecosystems.

Our chapter, one of the oldest in the nation, has been committed to preserving fish and wildlife habitats, clean air, and clean water since 1926. Events like the Wild Game Dinner not only celebrate tradition but also help support ongoing conservation efforts in partnership with organizations like Clean Up - Give Back and the Forest Preserve of Cook County.
